“Helping seniors and their pets.” – Cindy’s Pets

Posted by on Feb 6, 2014

It has been noted that many seniors, while participating in the “Meals on Wheels” program in Pasco County, often give a portion of their delivered meals to their beloved pets. These companion pets are frequently a homebound senior’s only “family” member, and the pet’s well-being is naturally very important to them. Our goal is to provide good nutritional food for the animals, thereby enabling the elderly to enjoy their own meals with the knowledge that their pet is also being taken care of. Genesis School and interested parents and friends came together in 2010 to create a program which provides needed pet food for the animals of Senior citizens in our area. Called Cindy’s Pets, our organization works in conjunction with Pasco County’s Elderly Nutrition “Meals on Wheels” program. Currently, Cindy’s Pets volunteers deliver over 2,000 pounds of pet food...

Art For A Cause – Blooms {HANDMADE WREATHS}

Posted by on Dec 24, 2013

Iwas always into the arts, I have dabbled in virtually every medium. Making wreaths was always enjoyable to me, so I started making them again for the upcoming holiday season. But my wreaths are more than just wall art. I donate a portion of my proceeds to a local family in need. The mother has been fighting cancer for a number of years. They have a teenager at home and recently had their water shut off. When I visited, they had virtually no food in their cabinets. I started a fundraiser for them and thanks to the help of generous people, we were able to get the water back on! I’ll continue to save funds over the holidays to help with food and living expenses. Part of my way of doing that is donating a portion of my Blooms...

 When it comes to education of wild animals,  Kathy Stearns, of Dade City Wild Things recently took the lead and created a new program which has made many realize that the raccoons which may have tipped over your trash last night and the coyote which many may fear, are not all that bad and are a  part of a delicate wildlife system which we must better understand. Florida Creative Living has visited Dade City Wild Things in the past and many may recall when ‘Tony the Tiger’ was a tiger cub and now ‘Christian’ the three week lion cub has been welcomed as well. These small balls of fur join over one hundred different species of wildlife which Dade City Wild Things care for and make possible for the public to learn more about. “We have created a new...

Animal Attraction: People and Their Pets

Posted by on Oct 24, 2013

If you’ve ever loved a pet, you know the kind of joy animals can bring. Why is it that we love our pets so much? Why are these relationships so important? To put it simply: because they make us happy. Have you ever noticed how much easier it is to make a pet happy than a human? When we give our pets their favorite food, or a scratch behind the ears, they are radiantly happy. They love to see us when we come home at night. Their love for us is a less complicated, pure joy than what we encounter with humans. There is something deeply fulfilling about this, especially in the complicated world we live in. Our bond with pets stems from three components of human nature: instincts, culture and empathy. The human brain is hard-wired to generate...

National Mill Dog Rescue | Rescued over 6,300 puppy mill survivors

Posted by on Sep 13, 2013

National Mill Dog Rescue rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes retired commercial breeding dogs from puppy mills. NMDR gives these dogs a new beginning and a final chance to find happiness and comfort in a loving home. MISSION STATEMENT: To rescue, rehabilitate and rehome discarded breeding dogs and to educate the general public about the cruel realities of the commercial dog breeding industry. National Mill Dog Rescue was established in February 2007, in honor of a forgiving little Italian Greyhound named Lily. Theresa Strader, NMDR’s Founder and Executive Director, rescued Lily from a dog auction in Missouri. Prior to that day, Lily had spent the first seven years of her life as a commercial breeding dog, a puppy mill mom. Determined that her years of living in misery would not be in vain, Strader started NMDR, giving a voice to mill...
