Artist Terry Pivinsky

I was born in Williamsport Pa. in 1950. I graduated from USF Tampa campus with a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in Science in 1972. I taught at Bauder Elementary in Seminole Florida from 1972-2002. While teaching I returned to St. Petersburg College at nights to work on my Art/Art Ed degree during the 1970’s/80’s.

I exhibited at the Mainsail Art Festival in 1979,’81,’83 and ’84 in the Vanguard category, which featured avante garde and environmental installations including: a 12ft giant kaleidoscope, a huge solar sundial, large plexiglass sunflowers, a solar powered bubble machine, a “walk-in”  camera obscura and a spectral observatory, where observers could view a free floating rainbow. Besides the very popular viewer responses I was awarded 1st and 2nd place awards in ‘81,’83 and ‘84. I also was accepted in and exhibited at the nationally recognized Gasparilla Arts Festival in ‘83.

From 1980-2000 I taught Summer enrichment classes for the St. Petersburg Junior College’s Kollege for Kids program. They included Photography/darkroom, Music, Art and Science classes.

In the late 80’s and 90’s I took a break from doing art shows to focus on my regular teaching and summer enrichment classes. I was able to incorporate my artistic and musical skills into both of those programs.

In the 2000’s I returned to constructing and photographing new solar sculptures, utilizing colored stage gels, plexiglass and pvc pipe. In 2007 I returned to exhibiting new work in a group photography show at Gallery-O in Largo, Fl. During the last 5 yrs. I have combined all my previous skills/artwork into new mixed media work. More recently I exhibited this mixed media work which includes painting, drawing and photography at the Artists Against Hunger show in St. Petersburg. I submitted work for the new, HD, I-Pad interactive Artbook Tampa Bay. I had 8 of 10 submissions accepted.

Lately, I have “hooked – up” with a couple local art groups like Art On Central and the Artpool Gallery for shows like the 4th anniversary exhibit/party at Artpool which included several of my pieces and have a show coming up with them on May 12 , called the Hep Cat Pin Up Review. Later, on June 2, I have been invited to exhibit work at Art on Central’s Art on the Bay 4 at the Museum of National History. And the following week on June 9, I will participate in the Great Coloring Book project held at the Odd/Even Gallery. Currently I have 3 mixed media pieces at the Artpool Gallery’s “Picture This” Photography Exhibit. I am constantly producing new work and look forward to upcoming shows in the Tampa Bay area.
